This department selects the most important Italian and international artworks across the main forms of artistic expression in the twentieth century: painting, drawing, ceramics, and sculpture. These range from paintings by artists such as Bernard Buffet, Giorgio De Chirico and Mario Schifano to prints by Salvador Dalì, Marc Chagall, Joan Mirò, Antonio Ligabue; from Alberto Martini's ink illustrations to Pablo Picasso's ceramics. The opening of this new department dedicated to twentieth-century art, and the announcement of its first sale in 2016 – alongside Artissima as a new art event in Turin – immediately aroused interest among collectors and enthusiasts. In May 2025, the work of the French artist Fernand Léger, Nature Morte (Contraste de formes), was sold for the extraordinary sum of 2,150,000 euros (including buyer's premium). This masterpiece, dating back to 1913-1914, is the absolute top lot in the history of Aste Bolaffi. On November 5, 2024, after an intense "battle" in the auction room, Alighiero Boetti’s tapestry Senza titolo (Segno e disegno, 1978) was sold for the extraordinary sum of 800,000 euros (including buyer's premium). Among the other top lots of this department there are Antonio Ligabue's oil on panel painting from the early 1950s, Leopard with snake (Lot 79), sold in May 2022 for 344,750 euros (including buyer's premium). These remarkable results confirm Aste Bolaffi’s ability to identify high-caliber artworks and make them accessible to the most refined and demanding buyers on the international market.
