PRECIOUS STONES, DIAMONDS AND JEWELS AT AUCTION

A huge selection of large carat diamonds and a prestigious blue Ceylon sapphire will illuminate the Aste Bolaffi spring jewellery auction, scheduled for Tuesday, March 26th in Milan, at the Grand Hotel et de Milan in Via Manzoni. The highlights of the catalogue, consisting of 489 lots from selected private clients, are precious stones and jewels by the most renowned luxury jewellery houses - including Boucheron, Cartier and Bulgari - as well as a collection of jewellery by Illario and Orisa and some fine antique pieces from the beginning of the nineteenth century.
The top lots in the auction are several diamonds with an exceptional colour, such as a 5.20 carat emerald cut diamond, D colour, VVS2 clarity (Lot 487, starting price 120,000 Euros), a 3.08 carat brilliant cut diamond, E colour, VS1 clarity (Lot 486, starting price 38,000 Euros), and a 5.65 carat emerald cut diamond, F colour, VS1 purity (Lot 484, starting price 80,000 Euros), all GIA certified.
Of particular interest in the catalogue, both for the clarity of the crystal and its intense colour, is an 18.39 carat Ceylon blue sapphire with no signs of heat treatment, mounted on a platinum ring with two 3.85 carat triangular diamonds (Lot 489, starting price 100,000 Euros).
One of the most important lots in the auction is a beautifully made 1960s demi parure by Boucheron,   composed of a flower-shaped pendant-brooch and earrings with brilliant and baguette cut diamonds of about 18.50 carats, decorated with turquoise (Lot 488, starting price 17,000 Euros), together with an elegant 1930s platinum geometric chain bracelet with Old European and round cut diamonds; a total of about 19 carats (Lot 273, starting price 12,000 Euros).
The offer is enriched by a few pieces of Illario jewellery, including a diamond and mother-of-pearl choker (Lot 450, starting price 5,500 Euros), and a set of Orisa pieces from the 1960s, always distinguishable for the incredible attention to the naturalistic element and asymmetry, which make them unique.
Finally, other fascinating pieces in the catalogue include some of the interesting creations of ceramist and goldsmith Esa d’Albisola, much admired by Picasso, like a large yellow gold and green tourmaline necklace (Lot 347, starting price 2,500 Euros), and a unique piece by Umberto Mastroianni, which was very significant in his artistic career as a sculptor-goldsmith: this choker, with a large round pendant decorated with mechanical elements, is like a "sculpture to wear" (Lot 454, starting price 5,500 euro).
