Coins, banknotes and medals in Turin from 7 to 90 June.
The spring numismatic auction by Aste Bolaffi presents in Turin, from 7 to 9 June 2023, numbers never seen before: two and a half days of sale, two catalogues presenting almost 2,800 lots, a total starting price exceeding
3.2 million euros.
The first catalogue is dedicated to the “
E.S. Collection” of Italian coins, a large collection assembled between the 1960s and 1980s that demonstrates the great passion of a farsighted collector. There are numerous rarities, including the
20 Zecchini Multiple of Giovanni II Corner (lot 35, starting price 50,000 euros), the
12 Zecchini Gold Shield of the Cross by Alvise IV Mocenigo (lot 38, starting price 20,000 euros), the
80 Lire of Carlo Felice of 1831 (lot 262, starting price 50,000 Euros), and the
100 Lire 1878 of Vittorio Emanuele II (lot 361, starting price 25,000 Euros).
The second catalogue opens as usual with the ancient coinage and continue with the Italian pre-unification coinages. The part dedicated to Casale is very interesting, with some specimens of great rarity and conservation; we mention, among others, the
Double Duchy of William II Palaeologus (lot 1315, starting price 15,000 Euros) and the
Quadruple of Charles II Gonzaga Nevers (lot 1350, starting price 15,000 Euros). Amongst the coinages of the House of Savoy, always excellently represented, we note the
80 Lire 1821 of Vittorio Emanuele I (lot 1761, starting price 30,000 euros), a beautiful example of the
100 Lire 1864 (lot 1866, starting price 22,500 euros) and a
50 Lire 1884 in exceptional conservation (lot 1888, starting price 8,000 euros).
In the large chapter dedicated to foreign coins, the
50 Dollar 1852 coin certainly stands out, a Californian issue with a particular octagonal shape (lot 2650, base 20,000 euros). Less curious, but certainly of interest, are the
10 Ducati 1935 of Czechoslovakia (lot 2135, base 15,000 Euros) and the
4 Coronas of Charles I for Valencia (lot 2384, base 10,000 Euros), the latter part of a collection of coins very unusual Spanish.
Finally, it is important not to forget a large section devoted to the Italian banknotes, with issues by Ancient Banks that are extremely difficult to find and the chapter on multiple lots, where surprises are always around the corner.
