BERTONE AUCTION, BATTLE OF THE BIDS: 100% OF LOTS SOLD
It was the last chance to take home a piece of Bertone’s car design history, and the hundreds of collectors that participated this afternoon in Aste Bolaffi’s auction in Turin didn’t let it slip away. Garage Bolaffi was packed with participants for the auction of memorabilia from the historic coachbuilder from Grugliasco, from which some of the most beautiful cars in the world were created, but above all, from which generations of designers, like Giorgetto Giugiaro and Marcello Gandini, who knew how to take advantage of that hotbed of ideas and talent, emerged.
Each of the lots in the catalogue – design models, insignia, logos and other mementos from the factories in Caprie – was the focus of an intense battle with numerous bids and counterbids, from those present in the hall as well as from collectors bidding by telephone and internet from all over the world, especially from the United States, the United Arab Emirates, France, the United Kingdom and Germany.
Each lot was sold on average for four times the starting price, and the sale ended with 100% of lots sold.
The top lots of the auction were the design model of the Corvette Mantide (lot 197), which reached 40,600 euros, the mold for the creation of the Lancia Stratos windshield (lot 121), sold for 25,200 euros, the iconic Bertone lighted sign from the roof of the Grugliasco factory (lot 61 bis) sold for 22,400 euros, the Lamborghini Espada engine (lot 125), for a final price of 21,700 euros, and the wooden briefcase containing samples of the Lamborghini Miura, Espada and Urraco’s finishings (lot 75) sold for 16,100 euros.
The lot of prizes, cups and plates, including the one originally displayed in Nuccio Bertone’s office in Caprie (lot 24) also attained an excellent result, finally selling for 14,300 euros from an estimate of a few hundred.
Filippo Bolaffi, Aste Bolaffi CEO, was pleased: "This auction represented a unique, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to take home something from the factory where the iconic Bertone cars were born. The memorabilia were very successful; the auction progressed slowly because there were so many offers. The extensive participation of foreign customers is testimony of the value of our enterprise and, of course, of how important the name Bertone is all over the world".
Among the cars the best results were achieved by the 1996 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 993 (lot 227), awarded for 92,600 euros, the Alfa Romeo Montreal (lot 235) sold for 90,000 euros, and the 1985 BMW M635 (lot 230) and the Lancia Integrale Evoluzione (lot 222), each awarded for 84,000 euros.
