STAMP AUCTION IN TURIN ON 3 AND 4 OCTOBER


The traditional philatelic auction will take place in Sala Bolaffi in Turin on 3 and 4 October with a catalogue of over 1,800 lots of the Old Italian States, Europe and Overseas. The top lot is a rare cover with "pentacolor" franking of the Papal States sent to the United States, with a third issue 3 c. pink-gray stamp (lot 1278, starting price 30,000 euros) and a block of nine copies of the 45 c. blue stamp of the first issue of Lombardy–Venetia from the 'Blauer Kaiser', the largest known multiple (lot 18, 25,000 euros).
Among the other gems are the rare "Colomba di Basilea" 2 1/2 rp. red and blue stamp (lot 1192, starting price 10,000 euros) and the so-called "Angel without a name", one of the rarest varieties of the Italian Republic (lot 659, starting price 10,000 euros). The aerogramme from St. John's to Rome with a 60 c. black "De Pinedo" stamp by Terranova from 1927 (lot 567, starting price 6,000 euros) also stands out, as well as a first issue Penny Black (lot 1151, starting price 7,500 euros) and a large specialized collection on the 15 c. "Sardinia type" stamp of the Kingdom of Italy with different rarities relative to the stamp (lot 464, starting price 5,000 euros).
Finally, among the most interesting lots there is an autograph letter by Charles Lindbergh concerning the preparations on board the "Spirit of St. Louis" for his transatlantic flight, in which the pilot explains the reasons for which he decided not to carry postal mail on board the plane (lot 1299, starting price 2,500 euros).
