STAMPS

Rare issues, stamped covers, and historical postal documents of all kinds: some of the rarest treasures of Italian and international philately pass through Aste Bolaffi's oldest department.

All the Italian issues are represented, from the stamps and letters of the old pre-unification states (Lombardy-Venetia, the Grand Duchy of Tuscany, Papal States, the Duchy of Modena, the Duchy of Parma, the Kingdom of Naples and the Kingdom of Sicily) to the very first stamps from the Kingdom of Italy; from the most famous errors in Italian philately, such as the Gronchi Rosa, to the most famous examples of airmail which testified to the great aeronautical feats of the twentieth century, such as the stamps commemorating the transatlantic flights in the Thirties and the triptych to commemorate Italo Balbo's North-Atlantic air cruise. In the past, some of Italian philately's most important collections have come up at auction, such as: the Capellaro Collection of stamps from Lombardy-Venetia, the Icarus Collection of airmail stamps and the Merano Collection of Italian stamps.

A large part of the auction is dedicated to international philately, which collectors and enthusiasts follow with greater interest. These include issues from Great Britain – including the Penny Black, the first stamp in the world – and issues from British colonies, among which are two examples of Post Paid stamps from Mauritius, the One Penny and the Two Pence, sold at auction in 2015 for over 200,000 euros. Stamps from Russia, the United States, South America and China are also sold. The 'Lots and Collections' section of the auction is always very popular, where buyers can purchase large numbers of stamps collected in a single lot that often hides exciting surprises.
