RARE BOOKS AND AUTOGRAPHS

Aste Bolaffi is pleased to announce an auction with works coming from private collections with two important sections dedicated to Torquato Tasso and Ludovico Ariosto and their respective masterpieces. Noteworthy for both quality and quantity, are the sections dedicated to illustrated books and beautiful bindings from the Sixteenth to the Twentieth century. The section of travels and geography is particularly rich, with two first editions of the great Venetian cartographer Vincenzo Coronelli, the “Negroponte” and the magnificent “Atlante Veneto”. Another very sought-after book is a particularly fresh and wide margined copy of the so-called “Mexican Treasure” by Federico Cesi. A very interesting part of the catalogue is dedicated to Science with rare editions by Redi, Magalotti and Galilei. The latter is present with the first editions of “Il Dialogo” and “Il Saggiatore”. The last highlight of the sale is an extremely rare volume with the etchings by Peter Paul Rubens and Antoon van Dyck printed in Amsterdam in 1808 with a superb neoclassical green Moroccan ligature.
